Some of the projects we have been involved in include:- Organising an annual Walk to Church Sunday Changing the Church's electricity to a renewable supplier Encouraging Sunday services to include teaching, worship and prayers that encompass green theology Encouraging the congregation to adopt sustainable practices in their homes Working towards good garden management in the church grounds to encourage wildlife
Eco-Congegation Award St. Mark's achieved Eco-congregation status for 2005-07. Eco-congregation is a project now run by A Rocha UK, they use independent assessors to check a church's green credentials. Our award was presented to us by Bishop John at a special service in 2006. |

We are currently looking at how St. Mark's can implement the newly formulated Diocesen Environment Policy. We will be carrying out an audit of current practice and looking for ideas for improvement. We have recently had an independent energy consultant conduct an energy audit for the church. The church mowing team are trying out a new mowing regime at the back of church to see if we can develop a hay meadow area for wildlife. |
