Dedication of Communion Table

The original (1905) Communion Table has been in storage and not been used since the re-ordering in 1997. It was a very heavy and large panelled box, made of oak and dark stained. We were recently given faculty permission to take this table apart and use the wood to make two small tables for the Emmaus Chapel...

...one to be used for occasional communion services in the chapel and the other, a long low table, to go under the reredos to hold a candle, cross or other small items. Philip Langstaff of Carthouse Furniture near Thirsk took the old table apart and then cut the large planks making up the top to use with some of the panels from the front for the construction of these new tables. The newly cut and planed timber has been treated with a clear lacquer to reveal the beauty of this old oak and the tables fit in well with the new woodwork of the re-ordered building.
